Schooner J & E Riggin - A Historic Windjammer

The J & E Riggin was built in 1927 as an oyster schooner for Charles Riggin in Dorchester, New Jersey. This windjammer, named after his two sons Jacob and Edward, both captains of the Riggin, has enjoyed the reputation of being able and fast and won the only oyster schooner race ever held on the Delaware Bay in 1929.

Still fast and able, and no longer dredging oysters, the J & E Riggin has converted to carry passengers and can accommodate 24 guests. The J & E Riggin was designated as a National Historic Landmark in 1991.

The cabins are cozy and comfortable, each with a sink, running water, and reading lights over the bunks. Every cabin has a porthole and is prepared with handmade quilts and soaps.

Captains Jon Finger and Annie Mahle

Jon Finger and Annie Mahle are both licensed Captains. A lifelong sailor, Jon holds a Master of sail 500-ton license, and served a four-year tour in the U.S. Coast Guard on the Academies tall ship Eagle and the icebreaker Mackinaw. Captain Jon also crewed a research vessel in Bermuda and has served as Captain on charter yachts from Maine to the Caribbean. He sails his ship with the artful skills handed down from the best traditions of the 19th century windjammers and safely commands the J & E Riggin to and from many destinations along the coast of Maine.

Annie is the schooner's chef. She studied at the Culinary Institute of America and her career in the restaurant industry spans 20 years. Annie has authored her own cookbook and has appeared with Al Roker on the Today Show. This husband and wife team, along with their two daughters, Chloe and Ella, invite you to join them in a one-of-a-kind adventure for the spirit-to enjoy their historic windjammer, make lasting friendships and feast on meals created with artful passion.
